Tite Kubo's "Burn the Witch" manga is set to receive a fresh anime adaptation, according to Anime News Network. This announcement comes hot on the heels of the 23rd episode of "Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War," which concluded with a special teaser for "Burn the Witch 0.8." This upcoming OVA, titled "Burn the Witch #0.8," draws from the manga's prologue chapter, offering crucial context for the main series. While additional staff and cast details have been confirmed by the official website for "Burn the Witch," no official release window has been provided yet.
"Burn the Witch #0.8" will feature the same core cast as its predecessor, with Asami Tano and Yuina Yamada returning to voice Ninny Spangcole and Noel Niihashi, respectively. Shimba Tsuchiya, Rie Hikisaka, and Hiroaki Hirata will also reprise their roles as Balgo Parks, Osushi-san, and Chief. Tatsuro Kawano, known for his work on the 2018 fantasy film "Penguin Highway," will resume his role as director, although it remains unconfirmed whether screenwriter Chika Suzumura will return to write the script.
The "Burn the Witch" manga's first part debuted in Shonen Jump in July 2018. Initially a one-shot, it was followed by four additional chapters in subsequent magazine issues. The story unfolds in a fantasy world ravaged by invisible yet potent creatures known as dragons, which have decimated over 70% of the human population. In the alternate dimension of "Reverse London," two young witches, Ninny Spangcole and Noel Niihashi, join Wing Bind, an organization dedicated to dragon control and management, to confront this dire threat.
Aside from "Burn the Witch," Tite Kubo is renowned for his best-selling supernatural manga, "Bleach," which began in 2001 and has sold over 130 million copies worldwide (as of November 2022). The series follows Ichigo Kurosaki, a high school student granted the power to combat evil spirits and demons by Rukia Kuchiki, a death god. While Kubo concluded the manga in August 2016, the recent anime adaptation, "Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War," premiered in October 2022. Serving as a long-awaited conclusion to Pierrot's original 2004 anime, this series depicts Ichigo's quest to restore equilibrium between the human and spirit realms, with the Season 2 finale scheduled for September 30.
For those eager to catch up, "Burn the Witch" is available for streaming on Crunchyroll, and the English version of the original manga can be found through VIZ Media.
